Semarang, undip.ac.id - This three day workshop will discuss marine biotechnology with a focus on natural product discovery, from field sampling techniques though biological screening and compound identification. In-structors from UNDIP and UCSC will present a short course in marine biotechnology that presents both strategies and methods for marine drug discovery, and highlights these techniques with re-sults from an ongoing collaboration between the two institutions. Participants will learn new tech-niques and tools and engage in team driven problem solving.
Topics will include:
- Site Selection and Field work
- Organism Selection
- Screening
- Analytical Chemistry and Structure Elucidation
- Case Studies in Marine Biochemistry
The workshop will be followed by a 2-Day Field Training in marine sample collection at the Teluk Awur Marine Station, August 9 and 10. Topics will include:
- Field collections
- Sample documentation
- Invertebrate Taxonomy
- Expedition logistics
