Undip’s Students Have To Create Startup
Diponegoro University’s (Undip) students have to make startup company, so that they are able to create jobs. It is mentioned in event of Jamkrindo Startup Challenge 2018 at Hall of Entrepreneurship and Business Clinic, Undip’s Faculty of Economic and Business (FEB), Tembalang, Semarang, on Tuesday (April 17, 2018) morning.
Dean of FEB Suharnomo said that a lot of youths in 1990s have dream to be civil servants, but now it has changed. Therefore, Undip students have to respond the change.
“The new study showed that 22 percents (of youths) want to be businessmen, 1 percent want to be civil servants, and the rest want to be professional. Study on success rate of Student Creativity Programs showed that only 5-6 percents of them are able to persist to 5 years,” he said.
“Undip FEB is already have an Entrepreneurship and Business Clinic. In the past, we have good program, but it has problem of industrialised the program. Now, as government policy changed, we have good indutrialised program,” he said.
“We hope, in this event a lot of students are inspired by their seniors who had been active in business world,” he added.
Undip Rector Prof. Yos Johan Utama said that last year Undip has ranked 3 of the most favorite higher education institutions in Indonesia. And now, Undip reached number 2 in Indonesia. This Startup Challenge is very important as it will encourage students not to be employee, but to be entrepreneur.
“To be entrepreneur is a choice, a choice to be leader. So, please develop all your abilities. Undip students had have big capitals, as you have travelled uneasy road to be Undip students. It means, you have been chosen,” Rector said.
Director of Jamkrindo Randi Anto said that the Startup Challenge is applied from Jamkrindo’s vision of developing Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). “So, we encouraged students’ innovations to be entrepreneurs. It is not only in Semarang, we did also roadshows to Depok, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Jakarta. If students’ SMEs can survive, we will facilitate their financing,” he said.
