Wednesday, 8/21, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Diponegoro University held a public lecture titled INTRODUCTION TO CETOLOGY SCIENCE ON WHALE – DOLPHIN – PORPOISE ASIAN FISHERIES MANAGEMENT, located at the FPIK Undip Auditorium. The event were attended by the Dean of FPIK Prof. Ir. Tri Winarni Agustini, M.Sc., Ph.D along with its staff, a speakers from the Faculty of Fisheries Science from Hokkaido Prof. Takashi Matsuishi Fritz, PhD and oceanography and satellite data mapping expert from Undip Prof. Dr.Ir. Agus Hartoko, M.Sc along with academics civitas.

In his speech, the Dean of FPIK said that the general objective of the event was to increase the faculty ranks and advancing the Faculty to the international levels.

Prof. Hartoko said that this joint research program would elevate the tradition paradigm of capturing whales that migrated from the south pole to warm waters of NTT and utilize it as a potential marine and educational tourism in the Lamalera Strait, Alor island, Sawu Sea and its surroundings.

“For this reason, the collaboration of whale expert (Cetacean) Prof. Takashi Matsuishi Fritz, PhD with oceanographers and satellite data mapping experts are necessary to develop scientific data with the Spatial Oceanographic Database system of Satellite Data and Biological, Whale Ecology data. It also summarizes other related aspects such as the local customary law, sociological, and socioeconomic aspects so that it can be elevated to the potential of a local sustainable Marine Geopark at national and international levels. This program will involve 1 doctor from Alor island – NTT, a doctor from MSDP Undip program, Yi. Jahved Ferianto Maro, M.Sc “conclude Prof. Hartoko.
