Professor Acceleration Improves Indonesia’s Human Resources Quality

Being a world-class university, Undip continues to score achievements, improving services, performance and target achievements that continue to raise to the top. One of the programs that continues to be spurred on is the acceleration of professors in line with the Government’s work program, namely building superior human resources for advanced Indonesia.

For that reason, Undip have inaugurated 3 professors namely Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nur, DEA from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Prof. Dr.Ir. Eko Nurcahya Dewi, M.Sc. from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and Prof. Dr.dr. Banundari Rachmawati, Sp.PK (K) from the Faculty of Medicine on Saturday (31/8) at Prof. Soedharto, SH Building, Undip Tembalang campus.

Started with a presentation from Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nur, DEA entitled Innovation and Downstreaming of Plasma Physics Technology as an Ozone Generator to Ensure Post Harvest Quality in Horticultural Products in Indonesia. There were 3 things that were delivered namely: the development of plasma science from basic scientific aspects (fundamental), the development of plasma ozone technology, and the utilization of findings from community campuses (research for the community). His findings that can already be benefited by the community was Zeta Green for handling victims of smoke and D-Ozone which is plasma technology that serves to extend the freshness of vegetables and fruit.

Followed by Prof. Dr.Ir. Eko Nurcahya Dewi, M.Sc. from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences who raised a topic regarding Seaweed Contributions to Support Food Security. She presented about seaweed which is one of the leading industries. She also explained about the development of the potential of seaweed with other diversifications to support food security. One of them is natural coloring which is good for health.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr.dr. Banundari Rachmawati, Sp.PK (K) from the Faculty of Medicine delivered a presentation entitled Examination of Homocysteine Serum as One of the Efforts to Prevent Degenerative Diseases. She stated that currently the 3 highest causes of death are: ischemic heart disease, stroke and DM. All three are degenerative diseases in which occurs due to the deterioration of a tissue or organ over time. One of the prevention efforts is by examining Homocysteine Serum.

Of the approximately 125 active professors at Undip at present, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nur, DEA is the 6th Professor from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics. While Prof. Dr.Ir. Eko Nurcahya Dewi, M.Sc. is the 17th Professor from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, and Prof.Dr.dr. Banundari Rachmawati, Sp.PK (K) is the 15th Professor from the Faculty of Medicine.

It is hoped that the research results that have been produced will benefit and encourage the actualization of superior Indonesia’s human resources.

The Undip Rector, Prof. Yos Johan Utama revealed this inauguration was a pride for Undip. This is Undip’s big step towards being able to bring quality universities, which is through qualified lecturers.

The Rector stated that the achievement of the professors at Undip was indeed on fire or being spurred. In 2017 there were 16 professors that has been inaugurated, 7 professors in 2018 and for this year it is targeted to be 20 new professors.

The Rector said that a professor is the highest position in the academic field but the real thing is on how to channel the innovation to benefit humanities.

To note, currently Undip Semarang occupies 240 positions in Asia and 801+ in the world. Prof. Yos said, the campus provides support with scholarships for lecturers to be able to take doctoral degrees abroad. At present only 23 people will depart.

However, the Rector also emphasized that becoming a professor is not an easy task. Not only completing doctoral studies but there are several stages that must be passed.
