To celebrate Mother’s Day, on Sunday, December 22nd, 2019, the team from the lecturers and the students from Applied Science Bachelor Vocational School Undip did community service in Kangkung Village, Mranggen sub-district, Demak district. Kangkung village is one of the fostered villages of Vocational School Undip, which is in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kemkominfo). The lecturer team of S1 Terapan TRKI was lead by Ir. Dwi Handayani, M.T. and followed by the members who were also lecturers:  M. Endy Yulianto, S.T., M.T., Heny Kusumayanti, S.T., M.T. and Anggun Puspitarini Siswanto, S.T., Ph.D. Meanwhile, the students who got involved are Alfyan Pujiastuti, Rifatul Jannah and Shabrina Berdiansyah. The community service program was one of the activities from Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi that is becoming a routine activity.

The activity called “The Training for Making Soap from Used Cooking Oil” got a warm welcome from the Family Welfare Empowerment Group (PKK) in Kangkung village. The activity started with an opening speech by the Head of PKK, followed by the direct practice of making the soap from the used cooking oil. The training participants were divided into three groups to make more intensive assistance. 

“The community service program is important to be done, not only for the lecturers or the students but also for the locals. The lecturers need to apply the laboratory’s research result to be implemented for further use for the community. Besides, the students are also got the opportunity to get in touch with the locals and explain the application of the knowledge they learned on the campus. We are hoping for the feedback from the participants about the things we want to develop under the needs of the community,” said Dwi Handayani as the Head of the Activity.
