SEMARANG – The performance of Diponegoro University (Undip), which was formed from decades of hard work, has now being appreciated by various groups. A form of appreciation that can be seen directly is recognition from national and international rating agencies, as well as data of Undip which was recorded by competent institutions.

Referring to the 2020 National Selection for Public Universities (SNMPTN) held by LTMPT (Institute for Higher Education Entrance Test) with 85 PTNs (Public Universities), out of nearly half a million prospective students who have applied, Undip became the second favorite PTN with as many applicants of 29,316 prospective students. Meanwhile, Brawijaya University had been interested by 30,932 prospective students in SMNPTN 2020 which was participated by almost half a million students.

The high interest in applying to Undip through the SMNPTN path should be noted, considering that this selection route is the first door to enter 85 PTNs (Public Universities) which processes are managed by the Directorate General of Higher Education through LTMPT. The basis for the screening of the joint selection process which first began in 2008 is the results of the final exams, report cards during secondary education as well as the amount of achievements of prospective students.

Still inside the national field, on the 75th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ministry of Education and Culture issued a Higher Education Clusterization ranking. In this cluster, Undip was included in cluster 1 rank 9. The 2020 cluterization of tertiary institutions uses four indicators, namely Input, Process, Output, and Outcome.

The Input indicators include the percentage of lecturers with doctoral education (S3), the percentage of lecturers with the positions of Head Rector and Professor, the ratio of the number of students to lecturers, the number of foreign students, and the number of lecturers working as practitioners in the industry. The indicator processes are taken from institutional accreditation from BAN-PT, accreditation of BAN-PT Study Programs, online learning, cooperation, completeness of PD Dikti reports, number of Study Programs in collaboration with the business world and the industrial world (DUDI), non-governmental organizations (LSM) or QS Top 100 World Class University (WCU). It also assessed the implementation of the independent learning program, and the amounts of students who participated in the Free Learning Program.

Meanwhile, the Output indicator is assessed from the number of indexed scientific articles per lecturer, research performance, student performance, and the number of internationally accredited study programs. From the outcome aspect, the indicators assessed are innovation performance, percentage of graduates who was hired for a job within six months, the number of citations per lecturer, the number of patents per lecturer, and community service performance.

In the eyes of international rating agencies, Undip also has placed in the position to be proud of. The results of the ranking conducted by the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2020 have put Undip in the 4th position nationally. THE observes the progress of 1,400 universities in 92 countries, the Head of the Diponegoro University Ranking Office Prof. Dr. Denny Nugroho ST MSi conveyed this in the scheduled 2nd out of 7 Series of Talk show of Alumni Network Strengthening 2020. What is surprising, said Prof. Denny, Undip, which previously was not in the top 10, immediately entered the 4th position, and on an international scale it was ranked in the 1001+ position.

On another occasion, the 2020 UniRank ranking results have put UNDIP in 3rd position in Indonesia, Gajahmada University is in first place and University of Indonesia is in second place. UniRank is a global education directory and a search engine featuring reviews and rankings monitoring of at least 13,600 universities in the world in 200 countries.

UniRank, developed by 4 International Colleges and Universities (4ICU), intensively ranks universities based on the criteria for the popularity of a university website. In conducting its assessment, UniRank uses several independent web metric algorithm system applications such as Moz Domain Authority, Alexa Global Rank, SimilarWeb Global Rank, Majestic Referring Domains and Majestic Trust Flow.

The main criterion used as a basis for the assessment is being accredited by a national or local accreditation body. For Indonesia, the data used is an assessment conducted by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) or currently the Ministry of Education and Culture. Universities that have not been accredited by the Ministry of Education and Culture or previously named Kemenristekdikti will not be included in the 4ICU ranking.

Another requirement to be included in the 4ICU radar is that the tertiary institution must have a bachelor’s degree (undergraduate) and / or postgraduate level education program, either Masters (S2) or Doctoral (S3) levels. Tertiary institutions that only manage vocational education and military-based education cannot be involved in the 4ICU assessment. Another thing that is required is the application of a face-to-face education system, or a traditional system, a classroom education format that brings together lecturers and students; not a distance education system.

The international organization Webometrics acknowledges Undip’s as a respected tertiary institution, and is in the 9th position in Indonesia. Webometrics is a rating agency initiated by Lab Cybermetrics, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). It is the largest public research body in Spain attached to the Spanish Ministry of Education. The publication of the results of ranking of higher education worldwide by CSIC aims to promote scientific research that will contribute to improving the welfare of society.

CSIC was founded in 1939 and developed the Cybermetrics Lab which is devoted to the quantitative analysis of the Internet and Web content related to the generation and communication of scientific knowledge. This institution encourages every university and research institute around the world to have a quality web with an open access pattern so that the transfer of knowledge to the general public can be realized.

What makes us proud is not only Undip’s ranking as an institution. The results of the study by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Graduate Employability Rankings 2020, prove that Undip is assessed as a tertiary institution that produces competent graduates with high job prospects or the best work-ready graduates ranked 3rd in Indonesia and positioned in 301+ in Asia. The ranking admits that in terms of speed of being hired, Undip alumni are in the 3rd position nationally and 301 in Asia.
