Undip DIS Study Program is Ready to Go-International After Receiving “A” Accreditation from BAN-PT

SEMARANG – Social Science Doctoral Study Program (Program Studi Doktor Ilmu Sosial / DIS), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University (Undip) states that it is ready to go-international after successfully achieving Accreditation A from National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi / BAN-PT). The readiness of administrators of doctoral program (Strata 3) is included in the global level since it has at least six professors who actively teach and guide in DIS Study Program.

The Head of Social Science Doctoral Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Undip, Yuwanto, Ph.D., said the support of six professors is important asset; moreover, these professors have good international reputations. “We are optimistic to step into the global level by starting to accept foreign students and organizing international scale activities, includes collaborating with various party of abroad”, said Yuwanto, on Monday (16/11/2020).

Currently, there are six professors teaching in Undip FISIP DIS Study Program, namely Prof. Budi Setiyono Ph.D., Prof. Sudharto P. Hadi, Ph.D., Prof. Dr. Endang Larasati, Prof. Dr. Naili Farida, Prof. Nurdien H. Kistanto, Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. Ari Pradhanawati. Together with other doctors and lecturers in DIS Study Program, the professors accompany students intensively to explore, study, and conduct research on various social problems, particularly on political science and business administration issues.

Indeed, he added, besides of the highest achievement of accreditation and qualified professors, the support of foreign lecturers as guest lecturers is also needed; especially to broaden the academic horizons of students and to enhance international networks. Those efforts have been done by DIS Study Program. Full support is obtained from funding and institutions at the faculty level, as well as at the university level where Undip already has an International Office and a Ranking Office which carry out facilitation functions for DIS Study Program and other study programs in Undip.

The determination and optimism to enter the global level, said Yuwanto, is in line with the program launched by Undip under the leadership of Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum., to become a leading research university at the top level (World Class University).

Referring to the history, DIS Study Program was opened with the issuance of a letter signed by the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture, Number: 94/E/T/2012 on January 17th 2012, which assigned Diponegoro University to organize a Social Science Doctoral Study Program in Undip campus. Further legalization is by the issuance of Decree of Rector of Diponegoro University Number: 555/SK/UN/2012 on September 10th 2012, thus Social Science Doctoral Study Program of Undip was established. It has concentration in political science studies and business administration studies.

The two of study concentrations are considered relevant to the needs, and DIS Study Program wants to be superior in the field of knowledge, research, and creative problem solving, being original, and overcoming social problems with its benefits that are recognized both nationally and internationally. The DIS Study Program is also determined to develop new knowledge, technology, and art in the social science field through research that produces creative, original, and tested work.

This program also prepares alumni to be able to solve social problems through an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, or transdisciplinary approach; as well as being able to lead, manage, and develop social research that is beneficial for mankind.

According to Yuwanto, in the last three years, the number of students has increased by around 45% every year. “Students’ interest in studying here has continued to increase rapidly in the last 2 years”, he said.

The students’ backgrounds for DIS Program are also increasingly diverse. At first it is dominated by lecturers who take advanced studies, now the students are from various fields such as bureaucracy, regional head, non-governmental organization, journalist, businessman, police, and notary have also joined as students and doctoral candidates in DIS FISIP Undip.
