I Gusti Lanang Putu Tantra, who received his bachelor degree at Marwadewa University Denpasar, and Masters in Economics at FEB Undip, is appreciated for his research which opened an understanding of great potential of marine tourism in Buleleng Regency. The study made by Putu Tantra is expected to improve the contribution of marine tourism to regional income and the welfare of its citizens.

The Head of Examination Team who is also the Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business, Suharnomo, said that he was happy that Doctor of Economics Program at Diponegoro University graduated two economics lecturers from universities in Bali. “We hope they can continue to develop their knowledge without stop doing research and studies according to their field of knowledge,” said Suharnomo.

Suharnomo enthusiastically said that he was proud of his doctoral students who were able to make real contributions to regional development. He mentioned that Doctor of Economics Program students at the faculty he leads are not elitists who merely become ivory towers. “Doctor of Economics Program in Undip is an option for friends from Aceh to Papua, since it provides competence to write in international journals indexed by Scopus, it also guides students to be sensitive to the problems of the surrounding community,” he said.

It is noteworthy that these two dissertations are empirical research, where the writers collect data and analyze it based on primary data through direct observation and experience in the field. The data is then processed using scientific principles in order to produce solutions expected to benefit the community and environment under study. Made Ika’s research firmly states that the final result of research is a recommendation for a social engineering model as an effort to maintain the existence of Subak landscape. Meanwhile, I Gusti Lanang’s research resulted in a management model for increasing competency for marine tourism resource services in Buleleng, Bali. (PR team)
