QS World University Rankings 2022: UNDIP Occupied the 8th Position in Indonesia

SEMARANG – QS World University Rankings 2022 released the ranking results for global universities in early of June 2021. Diponegoro University (UNDIP) managed to occupy the 8th position in Indonesia and 1001-1200 positions in the world.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2022 uses 6 performance indicators to calculate the global ranking. These indicators are: Academic reputation (40%), Employer reputation (10%), Faculty/Student Ratio (20%), Citation per faculty (20%), International faculty ratio (5%), International student ratio (5%)

For Undip itself, the calculation results of QS World University Rankings 2022 based on data from each indicator are: Academic reputation (14.2), Employer reputation (17.5), Faculty/Student Ratio (10.6), Citation per faculty (1.4), International faculty ratio (10.8), International student ratio (2.2). So the final calculated result of Undip score is 10.48. By this result, Undip is in 8th rank nationally.

Regarding the assessment table on https://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/world-university-rankings/2022#top_menu page, the Head of Undip Ranking Office, Prof. Dr. Denny Nugroho, ST, MSi, said that the QS WUR 2022 refers to the order of letters (alphabet) for groups of the same range rank, namely 1001-1200. Meanwhile, if calculations and data analysis are carried out based on existing indicators, the total score of Undip is around 10.48 so that it ranks 8th nationally, above Bina Nusantara University (9th), Brawijaya University (10th), and Telkom University (11th).

This result is achieved because of the cooperation and synergy of all parties. All parties are strengthening the path in realizing Undip as a World Class University. Undip Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Ir Ambariyanto, MSc., expressed his gratitude for the cooperation of all parties. “We express our gratitude, congratulations and success to the Rector, Vice Rectors, Leaders in Undip community, all lecturers, staffs, as well as all academics and alumni. This achievement is continued to realize Undip as a World Class University,” said Prof. Ambar.

Asked for his opinion on this matter, Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, SH, MHum hoped that this achievement would be an indicator that the campus he leads has received worldwide recognition. Achievement of Undip’s vision to become an excellent research university and world class university are established by increasing academic quality and the quality of graduates absorbed in the workforce. It is not easy to be achieved, therefore Undip also continues to make efforts in improving academic reputation at the global level, in collaboration with the QS 100 WUR university, improving the quality of research, publications and sites, collaborating with foreign researchers, and increasing the number of foreign students,” said Prof. Yos Johan, on Wednesday (11/6/2021).

The results of this ranking have become one of the references used by prospective students and their families in choosing a college. These results are also used by the government and universities themselves to determine the next policy to be implemented.

With a strict assessment, only 11 universities in Indonesia have succeeded in entering the QS World University Rankings 2022 ranking. These universities are dominated by State Universities. The rankings are Gajah Mada University, University of Indonesia, Bandung Institute of Technology, Airlangga University, Bogor Agricultural University, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Padjadjaran University, Diponegoro University, Bina Nusantara University, Brawijaya University, and Telkom University. Gajah Mada University is in 1st position with a total score of 38.3.

As for the global level, based on the QS World University Rankings 2022 ranking, placing the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1st position. This university, located in the City of Cambridge, recorded a total score of 100. Sticking to the 2nd place, the University of Oxford with a total score of 99.5. While the 3rd place is achieved by Stanford University with a total score of 98.7 points.

Please note that the QS World University Rankings is not an arbitrary institution. QS World University Rankings is the only international ranking agency that has received approval from the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG). The QS World University Rankings institution itself is one of the three most read university ranking institutions in the world according to Alexa Internet. Other well-known institutions are Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) and Times Higher Education World University.
