Civanda Adi Putri (UNDIP Governance Science Student), 1st Winner of the National Poetry Reading Contest Organized by UNY

Civanda Adi Putri, a student of Governance Science Study Program at Diponegoro University, as well as a member of Diponegoro Theater, won the first place in Poetry Reading Contest organized by Aksara Event Organizer, Office Administration Education Study Program, Faculty of Economics, Yogyakarta State University (Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta / UNY).

“So this competition is entitled Glittering Literature 2021 ‘Dialectics Romance; One Word with a Million Meanings’ with National Level Poetry Reading and Poetry Writing Competition activities and Online Talk Shows organized by UNY. The goal is to increase creativity and self-confidence, as well as to develop imagination and ideas of the young generation of Indonesia, which can be participated by high school / vocational high school students and college students throughout Indonesia. The announcement of the winners was on June 13th 2021, just yesterday,” she said.

“I read a poem entitled ‘Tapi’ by Sutardji Calzoum Bachri, I think this poem has a very deep meaning and describes a conflict between two people where one of them is struggling but the struggle is not appreciated or has no meaning. This poem is full of images of extraordinary sadness so I try to totally animate and be part of the story in it. I practiced for about a week so I could really live it,” she said.

Civinda has known the world of poetry since elementary school, the support from the people around her made her love poetry even more. Poetry for her is not just a hobby, but has become part of her identity. She becomes more confident when reading a poem.

“Since elementary school, I have participated in various non-academic competitions, especially in the field of arts. Before entering university, I participated in a storytelling competition to the national level. It was a poetry reading competition against corruption organized by LPSBB Teater Tubuh Purwokerto. The event was participated by district-level student and I won 2nd place. While studying at university, I participated in a poetry reading competition in FISIP MARS 2021 and became the best winner for female poetry reading, then I had the opportunity to take part in Diponegoro Art Competition 2021 in the category of poetry reading”, she explained.

“Every individual has their own potentials, strengths, and talents. It’s just how we manage and try to make the potential that exists within ourselves to be an opportunity for achievement. Don’t be afraid to try and don’t be afraid to fail. Sometimes the thing that most often prevents us from becoming a successful person is because of pessimism and a fear of trying. We must remain optimistic and believe that the talent or potential that exists within us, both in the academic and non-academic fields, will bring benefits in our lives,” she encouraged the younger generation.
