Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences UNDIP Continues to Increase the Number and Productivity of Its Professors

SEMARANG – Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) continues to be determined to increase the number of professors in all existing study programs, even though currently 25% of its lecturers are professors. In addition to increasing the number of professor, Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences also emphasizes increasing the performance and productivity of its professors.

The Dean of Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences Undip, Prof. Dr. Ir Bambang Waluyo Hadi Eko Prasetiyono MS MAgr IPU, said that currently the faculty he leads has 101 lecturers and 25 of them already have the title of professor. The faculty has exceeded the normative target but it still opens the door for the birth of new professors. “All programs are carried out as well as we can. The ‘one professor one candidate’ program launched by the Rector is also still running,” said the figure who is familiarly called Prof. Bambang WHEP, on Thursday (19/82021).

According to him, in the process of promotion of professors it all depends on the efforts of each lecturer. Institutions, in this case Study Programs, Departments, Faculties and Universities, can only encourage and provide a supporting environment that accelerate the process. “The professorship title is the highest academic position achievement, not a gift. Therefore, the will of the lecturers is important,” he added.

In the current context, Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences Undip does encourage and pay special attention to study programs which the number of professors is still limited. The reason is, to become a World Class University, one of the important point is the number of professors it has. However, said Bambang WHEP, it is the initiative and will of the lecturers that will determine it.

Currently, Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences Undip has two departments, namely Department of Animal Science and Department of Agricultural Science. The Department of Animal Science manages Animal Science Undergraduate Study Program, Animal Science Postgraduate Study Program and Animal Science Doctoral Study Program. Meanwhile, Department of Agricultural Science has Food Technology Undergraduate Study Program, Agroecotechnology Undergraduate Study Program, Agribusiness Undergraduate Study Program, and Agribusiness Postgraduate Study Program. All of these study programs have been accredited A (Excellent). In addition, all of these study programs focus on tropical agriculture and organic farming.

As for what is meant by performance achievement and increasing productivity of professors is to encourage their involvement in academic activities and community service to the fullest. In addition to teaching, professors must also play a maximum role in guiding students’ thesis, theses and dissertations so that the results are well qualified and efficient.

Professors are also required to conduct research and publish them in reputable scientific journals. Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Undip encourages all research to be published in influential scientific journals. “Hopefully, the research results can be published in the Q1 Journal, if not, then Q2. In national journals, the classification is Sinta-1 and Sinta-2,” hoped the man who studied master degree in Japan and doctoral degree at IPB University.

The expertise of the professors must continue to be honed and developed in order to provide maximum benefits for the welfare of mankind and the environment. The role in the world of research is still very much needed by the community, nation and state. Research and innovations are expected to be patented and certified at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia in order to facilitate the process of downstream research.

Regarding community service, Bambang WHEP said that it is not only part of the Tri Dharma of higher education, but also becomes a medium to understand what is happening in the field and how real conditions exist. In the process of community service, innovations that are efficient and relevant to the needs of the community are usually born. “Scientific standards are still important, but the relevance of innovation and research cannot be ignored. We hope that our knowledge, our research and our innovations will be useful,” he said. (PR team)
