MAI and Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science UNDIP Held International Conference “ICAI 2021” to Discuss Aquaculture Development in the Midst of Pandemic

SEMARANG – The national professional organization of Indonesian Aquaculture Society (Masyarakat Akuakultur Indonesia / MAI) in collaboration with Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) held an international aquaculture conference of “The 10th International Conference of Aquaculture Indonesia” (ICAI). The conference with the theme  of “Aquaculture Thriving During the Pandemic” will be held on October 28th – 30th 2021 in Semarang City by online and offline.

Chairman of ICAI 2021, Dr. Vivi Endar Herawati, S.Pi, M.Si, said that the selection of this theme was adapted to the real conditions faced by the aquaculture community and even by all existing professions. She hoped that the conference will give recommendations that can have a direct impact on improving the situation.

According to Vivi Endar, ICAI is an annual aquaculture international forum organized by MAI, with the aim to encourage sharing of knowledge and information between scientists and aquaculture industry players from all Asia Pacific countries and others. It also explores the latest important issues and how to respond through strategic solutions for the advancement of the development of the aquaculture industry, especially the domestic industry. “As in previous years, ICAI 2021 forum will be attended by participants from various groups ranging from researchers, academics, practitioners, entrepreneurs, bureaucracy, and students as well as from several other fisheries associations,” she said to the PR team, on Wednesday (8/9/2021).

The committee stated that the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono will give a keynote speech at ICAI 2021. Meanwhile, several national and international aquaculture experts also present as resource persons, namely Prof. Rokhmin Dahuri, (Chairman of MAI); Dr. Albert Tacon (United States); Dr. Jean Yves Mevel (France); Robin Mc Intosh (Vice President of Charoen Pokhpand); Prof. Johannes Hutabarat (UNDIP); Prof. Slamet Budi Prayitno (UNDIP); Dr. Clive Jones (Australia); Shane Wilis (President of OFI); Dylan Howell (Singapore); Dr. Haig Babikian (Central Proteinaprima); and Dr. Maya Puspita (SELT Marine Group).

The latest research results will be disseminated in scientific sessions with various topics, including Aquaculture Management & Technology, Diseases & Environment, Genetic & Breeding, as well as Feed & Nutrition and Biotechnology.

In practice, the meeting will be divided into 7 (seven) business forum sessions by presenting several practitioners and business people in their respective fields, namely 1) shrimp business sessions, 2) ornamental fish and shrimp, 3) freshwater fish, 4) brackish water fish, 5) marine fish, 6) seaweed and 7) digital aquaculture technology. The policy is intended to build a link and match both from academics, practitioners and industry players as well as part of efforts to realize the research results to the industrial world.

Unlike ICAI 2020 which was held offline, ICAI 2021 will be held in a hybrid style where offline event is for certain guests and full online event for all participants using Zoom Meeting platform. The conference cannot be held completely offline because it is still in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic.
