UNDIP will Conduct Trial Face-to-Face Lectures Soon with 25% Maximum Capacity of Participants

SEMARANG – Following the decrease in the level of Community Activity Restrictions Enforcement in a number of provinces and districts/cities, a number of universities will also implement lecture trials of face-to-face learning. Diponegoro University (UNDIP) is no exception, as a state university in the city of Semarang.

Undip Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Budi Setiyono Ph.D, said that Undip would conduct face-to-face learning trials after the Mid-Semester Examination. ”We will choose certain courses in each study program. Maybe in each study program there are three courses that will be tested,” said Prof Budi Setiyono, on Saturday (18/9/2021).

According to him, Undip will pay attention so that the lecture can be implemented according to health protocols to maintain the safety of lecturers and students who take the course. “So for example, it is required that students and lecturers should have been vaccinated to be able to attend the offline lectures. For the face-to-face learning, it is better if they come from regions such as regencies and cities in level 2 and below of Community Activity Restrictions Enforcement ,” he explained.

Furthermore, according to him, students are also asked to report their medical history. “Then we will ask the student to report various medical histories. There is a form that is distributed to them so that we can anticipate certain things, related to health condition of the student. We will also ensure the implementation of the trial conducted with 25 percent of maximum capacity of participants in each class,” he said.

In planning face-to-face learning implementation, a rotating system will be applied, while other participants will do it online. “So later the participants will take turns on who will take part in the offline lectures in each class.”

Undip will pay attention to the consequences of implementing the face-to-face lecture or learning. Therefore, the university conducts research, data collection and solicits relevant inputs in its implementation. “We are also predicting the consequences of face-to-face lectures,” he explained.

Technical matters that are also considered are problems related to internet capacity, because it is confirmed that a hybrid model will be carried out. Hybrid learning is a mixed learning method between face-to-face learning and online learning. This mixed learning method allows some students to learn face-to-face in class and some others continue to study online.

“To support the hybrid learning, it takes capacity from wifi as well as other needs related to learning media and also smart classes. The lecturers are present in class and at the same time learning materials can also be accessed online. There is a combination of online and offline ways when taking the course.”

This statement also follows the recommendation of the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, to allow universities to conduct face-to-face learning trials. Ganjar allowed universities to conduct lecture trials. However, before doing so, the universities should discuss it to the regional government. “I allow the implementation of face-to-face learning trials, please try it out. We just need to coordinate if there is a trial at the university. I think it’s okay, just start the preparation,” Ganjar stated.

The governor also asked in implementation of face-to-face learning both trial and class, the university should make daily reports. The report is an accumulation of data in the implementation of face-to-face learning which is being analyzed on the weekly evaluation.

“Earlier, there was an expert suggestion from Undip for a weekly evaluation. So, I think a daily report should be made. The daily accumulation will be used for weekly evaluation,” said Ganjar. (PR team)
