Diponegoro University (Undip) has made another glorious achievement. The Undip Antawirya team won 2nd place in the Urban Category of Gasoline Internal Combustion Engine and 1st place in the Eco Fun Race Urban Category of Gasoline Internal Combustion Engine in the Energy Saving Car Contest (Kontes Mobil Hemat Energi / KMHE 2021) at the Gelora Bung Tomo Circuit Surabaya on November 15th-20th 2021.

The KMHE 2021 competition is organized by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) of the Republic of Indonesia in collaboration with Surabaya State University (Unesa) as the host. The Energy Efficient Car, created by the Antawirya team from the Faculty of Engineering Undip, is supported by PT SKF Indonesia, PT Pertamina Persero, Pertamax Turbo, PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur, and Bank Jateng.

Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Budi Setiyono, S.Sos., M.Pol.Admin., Ph.D., expressed his gratitude to the Undip Antawirya team for making Undip proud of their achievement in the national contest. “This is the best achievement that the Undip Antawirya team has ever obtained during its participation in the KMHE competition since 2013. Thank you for all the support,” said Prof. Budi.

The achievement of the Undip Antawirya team cannot be separated from the cooperation and support of all team members and supervisors. The Undip Antawirya team is chaired by Gusti Andika Ramadanu, and the team supervisor is Dr.-Ing. Paryanto.

The Antawirya team had previously gone through various selection processes, ranging from administrative file selection, vehicle design report selection, to virtual technical inspection selection. “Our team qualified for the top three in that category. We conducted test-drive day by day to find maximum efficiency results on our vehicles. And finally, in the offline competition, we won 2nd place in the Urban Gasoline category and 1st place in the Eco Fun Race,” said the supervisor of the Antawirya team, Dr.-Ing. Paryanto.

Through its flagship car, Gentayu, the Undip Antawirya team managed to grab their best achievements in KMHE 2021. Dr.-Ing. Paryanto revealed that the Gentayu car is an energy-efficient vehicle as a result of research from the Antawirya team which has a gasoline engine. “Gentayu uses a modified 125cc engine that has been modified in order to achieve as little fuel consumption as possible but can reach furthest distance,” he explained.

In addition, the shape of the Gentayu car is made as aerodynamic as possible to get the least drag force possible, so that it will achieve the highest efficiency with the least possible drag.

Furthermore, the Antawirya team is projected to participate in the KMHE 2022 national competition and the international level competition called Shell Eco Marathon (SEM) 2022.

There are two categories in KMHE 2021 namely Prototype and Urban concepts. The concepts are a challenge for the participants to create their own creativity to produce interesting research products. In the Prototype concept, participants are expected to be able to create future vehicles with special designs that maximize efficiency. While in the Urban concept, participants are required to create a four-wheeled vehicle that looks like a car in general and is suitable for driving on the streets.

A total of 78 teams participated in the early stages of KMHE 2021, 48 teams managed to qualify for the next stage. In the final stage of KMHE 2021, there are 24 teams, each consisting of 5 core students, 1 supervisor, 1 press student, and support teams from 24 universities throughout Indonesia.

KMHE 2021 is a national level efficient car competition which is expected to encourage the nation’s young generation, especially students, to produce automotive technology that is energy efficient and beneficial for the development of the Indonesian nation and state.
