Faculty of Humanities UNDIP Strengthened Its Vision to Become an Excellent Research Faculty in Southeast Asia in 2025

SEMARANG – Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University (Undip), Dr. Nurhayati, M.Hum, is determined together with all elements to bring Faculty of Humanities Undip to become an excellent research faculty in Southeast Asia by 2025. This determination is also an affirmation of supporting Undip to become World Class University (WCU).

The superior quality that is planned to be achieved in the fields of culture including literature, language, history, anthropology, libraries, philosophy, and archives. “We are committed to strengthening our vision, which is to become an excellent research faculty in Southeast Asia by 2025 in the field of culture,” said Nurhayati, on Tuesday (11/23/2021).

To become an excellent research faculty, according to her, Faculty of Humanities Undip must strive to produce graduates who have quality research competencies and professionalism in their fields. Graduates from the study program of literature, language, history, anthropology, library, philosophy, and archives of Faculty of Humanities Undip, apart from mastering their respective fields, also have the ability to do research.

According to her, the target of producing graduates who have academic and professional abilities must be accompanied by the development of moral integrity, scientific and critical attitude, as well as having high competitiveness at both national and international levels. “So that they can produce research works and publications as well as innovative and quality research in the fields of literature, language, history, anthropology, libraries, philosophy, and archives,” she explained.

Furthermore, she said, students are also expected to produce community service works that contribute to improving people’s living standards, the development of the nation as well as development of the spirit of science and technology-based entrepreneurship. “We don’t just produce scientists, but graduates who are also writers who are able to produce literary works with a background of qualified knowledge. This is one of the characteristics of our study programs,” she conveyed.

To achieve what is targeted, Faculty of Humanities Undip also continues to develop its network of cooperation with universities abroad and within the country. Collaborative activities are an option because each university has its own advantages and uniqueness.

Regarding the target of becoming an excellent research faculty in Southeast Asia in 2025, Faculty of Humanities Undip strives to always support all activities carried out by existing study programs. “The activities including stadium generale activities organized by the Literature Postgraduate Study Program. These activities should be continued and developed in order to broaden knowledge related to cultural and literary issues,” she explained.

Head of Literature Postgraduate Study Program of Faculty of Humanities Undip, Dr. M. Suryadi, said that in order to realize the goal to be an excellent research faculty in Southeast Asia in 2025, the Literature Postgraduate Study Program held various activities, including the holding of a generale stadium entitled ‘Oral Tradition in the Postmodern World’ which was currently carried out,” said Suryadi.

The event was presented by a number of resource persons, namely Dr. Aprinus Regards, M. Hum. from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Dr. Lina Meilinawati Rahayu from Padjadjaran University (Unpad), and Dr. Moh. Abdullah, M. Hum. from Diponegoro University (Undip).

The three presented speakers are three doctoral experts in the field of oral tradition whose knowledge attracted the enthusiasm of the participants who participated in the activity. It is proven by the large number of participants who joined on Zoom meeting, as well as the activeness of the participants during the discussion session. “This kind of activity is also a manifestation of the commitment of the Undip Literature Postgraduate Study Program to facilitate students and scientists in the field of literature to exchange knowledge, as well as to have discussions to update knowledge in the field of literature and culture.”

Currently Faculty of Humanities Undip has an undergraduate study program which includes English Literature, Indonesian Literature, History Science, Library Science, Japanese Language and Culture, and Social Anthropology. The postgraduate study programs include Masters in Literature, Masters in Linguistics, and Masters in History, while the doctoral program is Doctoral Program in History.
