SEMARANG – The History Doctoral Study Program of the Faculty of Humanities of Diponegoro University (Undip) has developed into a reference for cultural studies and national maritime history. The study program, which began accepting students in 2017, has also shown its quality by graduating two new doctors recently.
The Head of the Undip History Doctoral Study Program, Prof. Dr. Singgih Tri Sulistiyono, M.Hum, said that although the study program had become a reference for cultural studies and national maritime history, students are allowed to make research with other themes for their dissertation. “The advantage of studying at Undip History Doctoral Study Program is the opportunity to study maritime history and culture. Even so, it is possible for students to do research with other themes,” said Prof. Singgih, on Monday (6/12/2021).
What is exciting is that the History Doctoral Study Program has produced two graduates, namely Dr. Latifatul Izzah M. Hum. (a lecturer at the State University of Jember), and Dr. Mohamad Zaki Mahasin, M.Pi from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. The Head of the Undip History Doctoral Study Program hoped that new doctors can be born from the study program he led.
According to him, since the beginning of the opening, several lecturers and professors were known to have competence in the study of maritime history and national integration. These fields are in line with Undip’s mission to become a center for coastal and marine studies. In this context, Undip History Doctoral Study Program wants to contribute to solving the nation’s problems through a historical perspective.
As part of higher education that continues to be in the process of being included in the ranks of world-class universities, Undip History Doctoral Study Program also strives to adapt to the development of science and technology as well as the needs of the community as stakeholders and users of graduates. The achievement set is to produce graduates who are competent as researchers, educators, staff of state higher institutions, as well as public policy analysts in the socio-cultural field.
Although the study is based on maritime culture studies, students are equipped to explore specializations according to their interests. Giving theoretical lectures for two semesters, students are expected to explore relevant topics and theories, including for the preparation of their dissertation.
To support the publication of research results, Undip History Doctoral Study Program already has its own scientific journal, namely the Journal of Maritime Studies and National Integration (JMSNI) which has been indexed by SINTA with 3rd rank and has become a reputable international journal. In addition, collaboration with other institutions is also opened through joint research and publications. (PR team)
