Rector of Diponegoro University (UNDIP), Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum., inaugurated the names of KHDTK Wanadipa and Joglo Bale Wanadipa Undip which are located in the Forest Area with Special Purpose (KHDTK) Penggaron, Ungaran, Semarang Regency. The inauguration of the names of KHDTK and Joglo Bale Wanadipa Undip in a forest area of 99.65 HA was held on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. KHDTK Wanadipa Undip located in the Perhutani KPH Semarang area is a laboratory/field campus that can be used by the Undip academic community and the local community. The joglo building which was inaugurated is made of more than 100 years old teak wood imported from Juwangi, Boyolali, Central Java. The joglo building area of 9×10 square meters can also be used as a meeting place for farmers in the area near the forest.

Presented at this event were the Regent of Semarang Regency, H. Ngesti Nugraha S.H., M.H.; Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M. Hum.; Chair of the Academic Senate, Prof. Ir. Edy Rianto, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU; Deputy Chair of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Yusriyadi, S.H., M.S.; Undip Vice Rectors; The Head of the KHDTK Office, Prof. Dr. Sri Puryono KS, M.P.; the Deans of Faculties and School at Undip; Bureau Heads at Undip as well as invited guests.

The Head of the KHDTK Office, Prof. Dr. Sri Puryono KS, M.P. said that the management of KHDTK was very helpful for preserving ecosystems, especially in Semarang Regency. “This forest is a tropical rainforest, in May and June this forest becomes a rest area for bird species from Australia. Let’s protect the environment as much as possible and provide bird feed so that one day it can become their habitat,” said Prof. Puryono.

Regent of Semarang Regency, H. Ngesti Nugraha S.H., M.H. expressed his gratitude for the cooperation between Undip and the Semarang Regency Government in the management of KHDTK Wanadipa. “Congratulations and I hope that KHDTK in Ungaran can become a means of education and research media that can prosper the surrounding community. Hopefully it can bring the good name of Semarang Regency,” said the Regent of Semarang in his speech.

In his speech, Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M. Hum. invited the entire Undip academic community to make the best use of the forest for the common good. “Let’s do the best for this country, protecting the forest is one of our efforts. This forest is a mandate for us, hopefully it can prosper the local community and government,” said Prof. Yos.

Through the Undip Postgraduate School, the boundary demarcation, inventory and zoning of the forest area was carried out by Undip based on the Decree of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia through the Ministerial Decree SK.339/MENLHK/SETJEN/PLA.2/8/2020. Besides being used for academic activities, KHDTK Wanadipa Undip has also been developed into edutourism and business.

The management of KHDTK Wanadipa Undip involves the local community by prioritizing aspects of research quality, forest utilization and community service. KHDTK development activities are carried out according to a systematic plan, namely strengthening KHDTK institutions in 2020-2024, conducting research and development activities towards forest ecosystem-based education services in 2025-2029, improving the quality of natural and human resources in 2030-2034, and implementing excellent and innovative research results in 2035-2049.

The latest activity of KHDTK Wanadipa Undip together with the Kedaireka program is the Integrated Farming System (IFS), which focuses on managing forest resources into commodities ranging from cultivation to processing of materials and waste to products. Other infrastructure facilities to be built in this area include offices, roads, and animal cages, so the presence of Joglo Bale Wanadipa Undip is important in helping the activities run.

Innovations from various scientific aspects developed at KHDTK Wanadipa Undip include the cultivation of environmentally friendly microalgae in agriculture sector, the cultivation of cattle and sheep with the main commodity of biogas production, solid liquid compost, and milk in the livestock sector, as well as the development of bioenergy. This program will be managed with Undip partners, one of which is a local community group whose majority are farmers through the Pesanggem farmer group. (Titis – Public Relations)
