30 UNDIP Community Service Students Welcomed by the Deputy Regent of Lumajang

The students team of Undip Community Service of “Peduli Semeru” Disaster Response Program 2022 was welcomed by the Deputy Regent of Lumajang, Ir. Hj. Indah Amperawati, M.Si. at the Lumajang Regency Government Office. The Deputy Regent was accompanied by the Head of Bappeda and the Rector of Lumajang University and their staff. This Community Service Program officially starts from January 31, 2022 to March 14, 2022, focusing on the villages of Sumberwuluh and Sumbermujur.

The Diponegoro University delegation was accompanied by the Deputy Chair of LPPM for Research, Prof. Dr. Agus Subagio, S.Si., M.Si.; Deputy Chair of LPPM for Community Service, Prof. Dr. Rahayu, S.H., M.Hum.; Secretary of the Service Center of Community Service (P2KKN), Kurniawan Teguh Martono, S.T., M.T. and a number of coordinator lecturers for Community Service.

The Community Service Program begins with the recruitment of students who come from across faculties and study programs, preferably those who have skills related to disasters such as Menwa, Wapeala, KSR, and Scout students. However students from different fields of study program and expertise can also register to participate in Thematic Community Service. The selection of participants was attended by 91 students through a series of tests ranging from interview tests and medical tests, so that students are expected to be able to carry out activities in healthy condition. The selection results stated that only 30 students passed to be involved in this Community Service Program.

On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Rahayu stated that Undip was very concerned about the condition of Semeru and the safety of students, so that the deployment of  Community Service team was only carried out now. It was hoped that Undip Community Service students could contribute significantly in handling the post-Semeru disaster.

Undip students team was warmly welcomed by Ir. Hj. Indah Amperawati, M.Si. and her staff. She conveyed that the momentum chosen by Undip was very precise considering the post-disaster focus to encourage government programs and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. The activities which will be carried out as work programs in the Community Service aim to help affected residents to immediately move to temporary housing locations and to manage the housing locations. Bappeda of Lumajang Regency hoped that Undip could take on a role to assist them in the fields that have never been handled by other Community Service teams from other universities.
