The Faculty of Public Health, Diponegoro University (FKM Undip) has just held the 4th International Conference on Public Health for Tropical and Coastal Development in 2022 (ICOPH-TCD 2022). The 4th ICOPH-TCD activity in 2022 will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 to Wednesday, August 31, 2022 online via the Zoom meeting platform.
The opening of the ICOPH-TCD 2022 activity was attended by the Undip Rector and Vice Rectors, the Dean of FKM Undip and his staff, and international conference participants. The resource persons of this event were Budi Gunadi Sadikin who currently serves as the Minister of Health RI; Dr. dr. Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, DHSM, MARS, who currently serves as the Director General of P2P at the Ministry of Health RI; Prof. Amanda Lee from School of Public Health The University of Queensland, Brisbane Australia; Assoc. Prof. Kun Hsien Tsai, Ph.D. from the Institute of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences National Taiwan University; Prof. John Parrish-Sprowl, Ph.D. from Indiana University-Purdue University Indiana USA; Prof. Darryl Macer, Ph.D., MPH, Hon.D. from the American University of Sovereign Nations-USA; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rafdzah Ahmad Zaki from the University of Malaya – Malaysia; Dr. Budiyono, S.KM., M.Kes. and Assoc. Prof. Hanifa Maher Denny S.KM., MPH, Ph.D. from FKM Undip; Assist. Prof. Mohammad S. Jalali, Ph.D. from Harvard University-Massachusetts USA; and Assist. Prof. Dr. Khadizah H. Abdul Mumin from the University of Brunei Darussalam-Brunei Darussalam.
Dean of FKM Undip, Dr. Budiyono, S.KM., M.Kes. officially opened the event and welcomed the participants of the international conference. “I am pleased to welcome you to ICOPH-TCD 2022. FKM Undip has held various events, such as the annual Summer Course program, webinars, guest lecturers, and the biennial International Conference on Public Health for Tropical and Coastal Development since 2016.” said Dr. Budiyono.
ICOPH-TCD 2022 raised the theme “Strengthening Health Resilience in Public Health System after Peak of Covid-19 Pandemic”. The ICOPH-TCD 2022 activity was attended by 297 participants, of which 223 were oral presenters. ICOPH-TCD 2022 participants come from various countries, including Indonesia, the United States, Malaysia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Taiwan, Ghana, and Sri Lanka.
In his speech, Dr. Budiyono revealed that during the Covid-19 pandemic there were changes in the health system so it was necessary to develop strategies to strengthen health resilience in public health. “In response to the current situation, we invite experts from the United States, Australia, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Brunei Darussalam, to share their experiences and knowledge.” he said.
According to Dr. Budiyono, this international conference is a great opportunity to collaborate in the fields of education, research, and innovation between institutions/agencies. ICOPH-TCD is a biennial activity organized by FKM Undip which started in 2016. “After we successfully held ICOPH-TCD in 2016, 2018, and 2020, we are proud to continue this intellectual tradition.” explained Dr. Budiyono.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, represented by the Director General of P2P of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Dr. dr. Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, DHSM, MARS, in his speech revealed that the Government has made various efforts to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic. These countermeasures are prepared in an adaptive and dynamic manner, adapted to the development of epidemiology or the level of transmission and vaccination programs.
“The pandemic prevention strategy in Indonesia is grouped into five main pillars, namely detection, clinical management, behavior change, vaccination, and strengthening the health system.” said Dr. dr. Maxi Rein Rondonuwu.
Dr. dr. Maxi Rein Rondonuwu added that from the handling of this pandemic, there are valuable lessons including that the health resilience system in Indonesia must continue to be improved. In line with the President’s vision and mission, the Indonesian Ministry of Health will also transform the health system in 2021-2024 to create a healthy, independent, productive society with five policies and six pillars of health transformation.
“To strengthen the health system, there are several policies, including increasing the degree of public health, accelerating the improvement of community nutrition, increasing disease control, GERMAS, and strengthening the health system and supervision of drug and food. In addition, there are six pillars in the transformation of health, namely the transformation of primary services, the transformation of referral services, the transformation of the health resilience system, the transformation of health financing, the transformation of health human resources, and the transformation of health technology.” he explained.
At the end of the event, the recipient of The Best Presenters at ICOPH-TCD 2022 was announced, namely I Gede Dedy Suwartawan with a paper entitled “Life Cycle of Aedes aegypti based on Acidity Variation of Domestic Sewage Water”.
