Anti-Myiasis Gel Spray Made by FK UNDIP Students Won an Award at the 2023 Thailand Inventors’ Day

MISSER, which is an innovative anti-myiasis gel spray product made by students of the Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University, won a silver medal at the prestigious world event, the 2023 Bangkok International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation and Technology Exposition (IPITEx).

MISSER is a gel spray made from apus bamboo shoots which have been proven to effectively treat cases of myiasis, both in humans and animals. This innovation was made by students from the Medical Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University, namely Aqsa Aufa Syauqi Sadana who developed the product together with Nurul Azizah, Yumni Rahadatul, Sineba Barly, Arkhan Meidy and Lugas Firdinand under the guidance of dr. Muflihatul Muniroh, MSi.Med., Ph.D.

The 2023 Bangkok International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation and Technology Exposition (IPITEx) is a series of events from Thailand Inventors’ Day organized by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation on February 2-6, 2023 at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center (BITEC).

This competition is the largest and most prestigious event held in Thailand and was attended by many inventors from various parts of the world, including Indonesia, Canada, China, Egypt, Hong Kong, Japan, Botswana, Croatia, England, India, Iran, Laos, the Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Vietnam, Sudan and several other countries.

The MISSER team also had the opportunity to be visited by Dr. Wiparat De-Ong as Executive Director of the National Research Council of Thailand, he appreciated the invention made by MISSER in overcoming cases of myiasis with apus bamboo shoots. In addition, on February 4, 2023 the MISSER Team representatives also had the extraordinary opportunity to meet Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Aqsa explained, MISSER itself is an effective solution in dealing with myiasis cases and is made in the form of a spray to reduce contamination with lesions. This innovation is based on concern for the high number of cases of myiasis and the impacts arising from this myiasis.

Previously, the MISSER Team had also often made achievements and awards at the National and International levels competitions including competitions held in Malaysia, Russia, Taiwan, Bali and Switzerland.

The win achieved by the MISSER team is presented for Diponegoro University, and it is hoped that they will continue to provide the best achievements to make the alma mater of Diponegoro University proud.
