UNDIP’s Contribution to Development of Regional SMEs in the Midst of Pandemic in 2021

Undip sent its teaching staffs to assist in the education and training events of Small and Medium Enterprises / SMEs under the auspices of Department of Trade, Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises of Demak Regency. The event is held on Friday, August 27th 2021 and Thursday, September 2nd 2021. The department sent a letter of request for teaching assistance to the Head of the UNDIP PSDKU Management Institute, Dr. Undip. Redyanto Noor, M. Hum. PSDKU Undip then assigned one of the lecturers, namely Ropinov Saputro, S.E., M.M. who has entrepreneurial competence as well as teaches entrepreneurship courses in Tax Administration Diploma-3 Program in Batang Regency Campus.

The activity entitled “New Entrepreneur Growth Training for Communities Affected by Covid-19 Year 2021” with the theme of “Arranging Practical Bookkeeping for SMEs” was held on Friday, August 27th 2021 at Tegalarum Village Hall, Mranggen District. Around 40 SMEs in the handicraft manufacturing sector enthusiastically participated in this training. The event lasted for 90 minutes and was filled by delivery of materials by Undip lecturers with the aim to change the mindset of SMEs to start doing business bookkeeping. Ropinov said that in accordance with Law Number 20 of 2008 regarding SMEs and Financial Accounting Standards for SMEs, SMEs are at least able to produce 3 types of financial reports, they are balance sheets or statements of financial position, income statements, and notes to financial statements. Ropinov added that SMEs need to be provided with insights and real examples of the advantages of making books, financial reports, including taxation, so that they are more enthusiastic about making financial reports.

In the series of events of “New Entrepreneur Growth Training for Communities Affected by Covid-19 Year 2021 on Thursday, September 2nd 2021, the activity was carried out in Mranggen District, Demak. The training which was attended by convection business actors raised the topic of “Marketing SMEs Fashion and Convection Products”. Ropinov Saputro presented material containing basic marketing concepts such as ‘Segmenting Targeting Positioning’ and ‘Marketing Mix’ strategies, which was then continued by providing an introduction to the concept of thinking digital advertising algorithms. The materials are not about coding or difficult algorithms, but rather translating the meaning of a Cookies Cache, likes, shares, interactions with prospective buyers online. Instead of offline business negotiation communications, it is about repeat orders in the eyes of algorithms and consumers. The resource person also explained that good marketing, apart from offering quality products, must also be able to create SEO (Search Engine Optimization) content so that search engines/marketplaces can recommend the content/products to relevant potential buyers.

Similar to the first training, this event was closed by the resource person by asking for feedback from the training participants which contained satisfaction as a participant and also proposed SMEs training themes needed by the participants. From the two trainings, the majority of participants expected training with the theme of digital marketing, capital, or employee/team management (HR). Ropinov said that the training needs of each group of SMEs are different, to improve the suitability of training with the needs of SMEs, one of which is done by providing feedback from SMEs participants.

These collaborative activities are one of the Main Performance Indicators of Diponegoro University where lecturers are required to increase activities outside the campus. Furthermore, the cooperative relationship between Diponegoro University and Department of Trade, Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises in Demak Regency will soon be legalized through a cooperation agreement between the two institutions where cooperation agreement is in the drafting stage by both parties.
