Minister Zulkifli Hasan and Erick Thohir Presented at the FEB UNDIP Public Lecture in a Discussion of Indonesian Trade Policy

Semarang (2/12) – Towards Advanced Indonesia 2045, various transformations were carried out to keep up with the changes in the current industrial revolution 4.0, including in the fields of economy and trade. With this aim, the Faculty of Economics and Business, Diponegoro University (FEB Undip) together with the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia held a Cooperation Public Lecture with the theme “Indonesian Trade Policy in Green Economy Development” aimed at Undip FEB students to find out more about Trade Policy in Indonesia. The Public Lecture, which was held on Friday, December 2, 2022, in the 4th floor of the Entrepreneurship Building Hall, FEB Undip, invited the Indonesian Minister of Trade, Dr. (H.C). Zulkifli Hasan, S.E., M.M. as the keynote speaker.

Officially opening this event, the Dean of FEB Undip, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si. welcomed the presence of the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. (H.C). Zulkifli Hasan, S.E., M.M. as well as the Indonesian Minister of SOEs, H. Erick Thohir Sidabutar, B.A., M.B.A. who also attended FEB Undip on this occasion.

“Thank you to the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia and the Minister of SOEs of the Republic of Indonesia who attended the Public Lecture at FEB Undip. We are here to support policies from both the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of SOEs, whose benefits are widely felt by the Undip campus and the general public. Through the Central Java FTA, we also support free trade, through the export of Central Java commodities, for example coffee, seaweed, chili sauce, cowek, and so on,” said Prof. Dr. Suharnomo.

The Minister of SOEs of the Republic of Indonesia, H. Erick Thohir Sidabutar, B.A., M.B.A. who were also present in the city of Semarang and Undip delivered his brief remarks. Indonesia’s economic growth which is predicted to increase by 5% each year can be strengthened by downstreaming domestic natural resources which are exploited by other countries, industrializing marine resources and agricultural conservation, developing industries, and strengthening the digital economy. “Let’s implement a knowledge-based economy. We downstream natural resources, young people must move, don’t just be spectators,” said Minister Erick Thohir.

Then the event continued with a keynote speech from Dr. (H.C). Zulkifli Hasan, S.E., M.M., the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, who stated that a recession could cause the economy to slow down, especially in traditional market economies. “We have to penetrate the international market, so we can compete with other countries. We do market penetration based on international agreements,” said Minister Zulkifli Hasan.

The Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia also stated that in addition to penetrating the international market, to move towards an advanced Indonesia in 2045, cooperation with various divisions and international agreements is needed through trade attaches and Indonesian ambassadors abroad.

“Make the country’s resources as derivative products before being exported, not raw products so that they become added value. Continue to support the growth of MSMEs, connect local MSMEs with modern retail, market places and digital platforms,” concluded Minister Zulkifli Hasan in his material.

The event continued with the presentation of general lecture material by 3 (three) speakers namely Dr. Ir. Kasan, M.M. (Head of the Trade Policy Agency of the Indonesian Ministry of Trade), Dr. Dradjad H. Wibowo, M.Ec. (INDEF Researcher / Perbanas Institute Lecturer), and Prof. Dr. F.X. Sugiyanto, M.S. (Professor of FEB Undip).
