UNDIP Doctoral Program in Social Sciences Offers Two Concentrations: Politics and Business Administration

SEMARANG – Doctoral Program in Social Sciences of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University (UNDIP) offers two concentrations of study, namely Politics and Business Administration for its students. Doctoral Program in Social Sciences besides having obtained an A Accreditation from National Accreditation Board for Higher Education is also supported by teaching staffs consisting of several professors and doctoral qualified lecturers who have relevant experience to the subjects they are teaching.

The Head of Doctoral Program in Social Sciences FISIP Undip, Yuwanto, Ph.D, said that currently the study program he leads has 14 lecturers, 4 of them are already professors, while 8 others have doctoral educational qualifications. That way, we hope that the program can run optimally,” said Yuwanto, on Monday (13/9/2021).

According to him, the four professors referred to are home base lecturers. In practice, the number of professors who are active in the Doctoral Program in Social Sciences is six people, namely Prof. Budi Setiyono Ph.D.; Prof. Sudharto P. Hadi, Ph.D.; Prof. Dr. Endang Larasati; Prof. Dr. Naili Farida; Prof. Nurdien H. Kistanto, Ph.D.; and Prof. Dr. Ari Pradhanawati. Together with doctoral qualified lecturers, the professors accompany students intensely to explore, study and conduct research on various social problems in the fields of political science and business administration.

Yuwanto admitted that in addition to accreditation and lecturers with professor qualifications, program organizers also need the support of foreign lecturers as guest lecturers to broaden the academic horizons of students and increase the international networks. Therefore, supported by faculties, universities, the International Affairs Office and the Ranking Office, his party continues to collaborate with several universities abroad.

Doctoral Program in Social Sciences of FISIP Undip which was born in 2012 is now starting to show its performance. The number of study enthusiasts continues to increase from time to time, so the admission schedule is arranged to suit the conditions of prospective students, most of whom are professionals.

As of September 6, Doctoral Program in Social Sciences of FISIP Undip opens registration for prospective new students for the Even Semester Batch I Academic Year of 2021. Registration is done online, and for registration Batch I will be closed on November 8th 2021. While the selection exam will be held on November 14th and the results will be announced November 19th 2021.

The history of Undip Doctoral Program in Social Sciences began with the issuance of a letter signed by the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Number 94/E/T/2012 dated January 17th 2012 which gave an assignment to Diponegoro University to organize a Social Science Study Program (Doctoral Program) . The assignment was then strengthened by the Decree of Rector of Diponegoro University Number 555/SK/UN/2012 dated September 10th 2012, so that Doctoral Program in Social Sciences of FISIP Undip established with concentration of political science studies and business administration studies.

Yuwanto said that in the last three years the number of students has increased by about 45% every year. “The number of students who are interested in studying here has increased rapidly in the last two years,” he said.

The background of Doctoral Program in Social Sciences students is also increasingly diverse. Initially the students dominated by lecturers who are pursuing further studies, now people from various groups such as bureaucracy, regional heads, activists in NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations), journalists, businessmen, police and notaries have also joined as students and become doctoral candidates in Doctoral Program in Social Sciences of FISIP Undip.

He is determined to continue developing Doctoral Program in Social Sciences of FISIP Undip as well as possible by entering the global level in line with the program launched by Undip under the leadership of Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum. to become an excellent research university at global level (World Class University). “Doctoral Program in Social Sciences of FISIP Undip aims to be the one who excels in the fields of knowledge, research and solving social problems that is creative, original and bringing benefit to mankind, which is recognized both nationally and internationally,” he said.
