Diponegoro University (Undip) was chosen to host the National University Debating Championship (NUDC) Regional Level 3 of Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta in 2023. In collaboration with the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI), National Achievement Center (Puspresnas), Ministry of Education Culture Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), NUDC Regional Level 3 of Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta will be held on May 19-23, 2023 in a hybrid manner.

The event was officially opened by Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Faisal, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D. In his remarks Prof. Faisal expressed his gratitude for the trust given to Undip. “On behalf of the leadership of Diponegoro University, we would like to thank BPTI for giving trust to Diponegoro University to host the selection for NUDC Region 3 of Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta. It is an honor for Diponegoro University to be able to participate in student activities, especially NUDC in 2023,” said Prof. Faisal, Saturday (20/05).

According to Prof. Faisal, the NUDC competition will have an impact both directly and indirectly on students in developing their soft skills. “I totally agree with the activities organized by BPTI. The ability of students to debate in conveying their brilliant ideas is a knowledge which will later provide added value for students when they are in a work environment or outside the campus,” he explained.

On the same occasion, Head of the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI) Asep Sukmayadi, S.IP., M.Si. said that NUDC can be a catalytic tool to identify, choose, and select the best talents who will later become the Indonesian team in debates at the world level.

Furthermore, Asep hopes that NUDC participating students can become the next generation of young people who have the competencies and soft skills needed in the future.

“This is an important event and has been around since 2008. Apart from that, it can also encourage students to sharpen comprehensive ways of thinking, communicating, and arguing, so as to improve the soft skills needed,” he said.

NUDC is a debate activity between universities on a national scale. This activity has been going on since 2008 and annually produces Indonesian delegates for the World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC).

This event has become a positive event for students throughout Indonesia to show their best skills in critical thinking and communicating in English, increase self-confidence, develop networks between universities, and foster a sense of pride as the nation’s generation.
