UNDIP Scientist Dr. Choirul Anam Won IUPAP Early Career Scientist Prize 2022

Semarang – Central Java (28/12). UNDIP scientist Dr. Choirul Anam, S.Si., M.Si., F.Med. from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, received the IUPAP Early Career Scientist Prize in Medical Physics 2022 from the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) in collaboration with the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP). This award was given at the International Conference on Medical Physics (ICMP), which was held on December 6-9, 2023, in Mumbai, India. The International Congress of Medical Physics (ICMP) is held every 2 (two) years.

Recipients of this award are young scientists who are considered to have made the most contribution to medical physics in the world and have carried out medical physics research within a maximum of 8 (eight) years after graduating from the doctoral program. This award is only given to one person in the world each year. The selection of award recipients is carried out by a special committee consisting of leading scientists in the world.

In his contribution to the field of medical physics, Dr. Anam has conducted comprehensive research on radiation dose and image quality from computed tomography (CT) aircraft. Dr. Anam and his team have developed software for CT dosimetry, namely IndoseCT, and for image quality on CT, namely IndoQCT. Both software have been downloaded by students, scientists and researchers from around 50 countries.

Dr. Anam has published around 200 papers. Of the 200 papers, 50 of them he was the first author and almost 100 of them were indexed in Scopus. Previously, Dr. Anam and his team received an award from the Association of American Medical Physicists (AAPM) as Best Paper for Medical Imaging Physics. Dr. Anam has also received awards twice as an Outstanding Reviewer from IOP Publishing.

In 2019, Dr. Anam also received the Young Leader Award from the Southeast Asian Association of Medical Physicists (SEAFOMP). In 2022, Dr. Anam and his team received an award for best innovation in the implementation of optimizing radiation protection and safety in medical exposure at the 2022 Si-INTAN Workshop and Seminar held by BAPETEN.
