Inauguration of the UNDIP Rector for the 2024-2029 Period

Semarang – Central Java (29/4). The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Diponegoro University, Prof. Drs. H. Mohamad Nasir, Ak., M.Si., Ph.D., inaugurated Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., as the Rector of Diponegoro University for the period of 2024-2029 at the Muladi Dome, Multipurpose Building (GSG) on the UNDIP Tembalang campus. Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., was officially inaugurated as the Rector of Diponegoro University for the 2024-2029 period, replacing Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum., whose term had ended.

Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., was born on July 22, 1970. He was previously the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at UNDIP before being appointed as the Vice Rector for Academic and Business Affairs. He was appointed as a professor at UNDIP on May 25, 2021, with an inaugural lecture entitled “Strategies for Excellent Human Resource Management in the Perspective of Indonesian National Culture.” This Human Resource Management expert also serves as an Expert Council member of the Regional Leadership (PW) of the Nahdlatul Ulama Teachers Association in Central Java.

Prof. Suharnomo brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Management at UNDIP in 1996, followed by a Master’s degree in Management Sciences at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in 2003. In 2009, he earned his Ph.D. in Management Science from Padjadjaran University (Unpad). He has held several key positions, including Chairman of the National Leadership Council (DPN) of the Association of Faculty of Economics and Business (AFEBI) for the 2020-2022 period and President Commissioner of the State-Owned Enterprise, Perusahaan Terbatas Perkebunan Negara (PTPN) IX, from 2016 to 2020. He is also a member and founder of the Brilliant Semarang Professional Certification Institute (LSP). He serves as an Assessor for the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) in the Human Resource Provider sector. He is the founder of the Accreditation Institute in the fields of Management, Business, and Accounting and the Chair of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Central Java at the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2020 period.

Previously, the Board of Trustees (MWA) of UNDIP had appointed Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., as the elected Rector of UNDIP for the period 2024-2029 on June 21, 2023, following a series of processes for the Election of the Rector of Diponegoro University for the 2024-2029 period, which began in January 2023 with the Nomination Phase. Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., succeeds Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum., who completed his two terms as the Rector of UNDIP.

Prof. Nasir, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (MWA) of UNDIP, congratulated Prof. Suharnomo on his official inauguration and urged him to uphold the university’s achievements. He stressed the significance of preserving UNDIP’s reputation and good governance, as well as the need for continued collaboration and partnership.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Board of Trustees (MWA) of UNDIP, Dr. Ir. Agus Indarjo, M.Phil., also congratulated Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., on his official inauguration as the Rector of UNDIP for the 2024-2029 period. “Congratulations on taking on this new role and leading UNDIP towards further progress and global excellence,” he said. “To Prof. Yos, we express our gratitude for the service and dedication you have provided, which has brought UNDIP on par with other top universities,” he added.

During Prof. Yos’s tenure, UNDIP has made significant achievements, garnering numerous championships and global recognition. These include being ranked 1st nationally for universities with the fastest alumni employment rates based on the QS Ranking for Employability 2021-2022; 2nd national ranking and 30th worldwide for Sustainable University according to UI GreenMetric for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023; being ranked 2nd nationally for the Best State Higher Education Institution (PTNBH) in 2021 and among the top 5 in 2022; Top 8 National rank for World University Rank 2023 according to QS WUR; being among the top 5 favorite universities for 5 consecutive years and having more than 20 internationally accredited programs by ABEST, FIBAA, ASIIN; having 24 programs ranked as the top 1 to 3 programs nationally, and being the 2nd highest number of applicants among universities in Indonesia according to SNBP (National Selection Based on Achievement) 2024.
