Students of UNDIP Community Service at Randusari Village, South Semarang District Provided Education on the Importance of Biopore

The students team of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) Community Service at Randusari Village, South Semarang District carried out work programs with the theme SDGs, Covid-19, and Drugs. The activities include education about the importance of water catchment areas and simple ways to make biopore, which is urged by the lack of water catchment areas in some areas of Randusari Village due to densely populated settlements. This program is expected to increase public understanding of the importance of water catchment areas for soil conservation and minimizing risk of flooding. Other work programs include education about the care and maintenance of the drainage system, education on the use and benefits of the PeduliLindung application, and education about the dangers of drugs for the community in the Randusari Village. This was conveyed by Mar’ah Wardatul Baidh, student of UNDIP Community Service at Randusari Village, South Semarang District.

Warda and the team (Muhammad Mirza Maulana, Bima, Daniel Sihombing, Akmal Wahyudi, Burhanu Fahmi, Gagas Ardiansyah, Raka Farhan Zaidan, Erick Tanjaya) carried out community service in Randusari Village, South Semarang District, where the distribution of community service places had been determined by the university. The deployed students adjusted their schedules and work programs according to the local community. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the work programs were carried out according to strict health protocols, so that some activities are carried out online in order to minimize meetings with many people. The community welcomed the team of UNDIP Community Service in a nice and friendly manner, as well as participated well in the activities carried out by UNDIP students.

“Community Service during a pandemic is different from community service in general because it can be done in groups, directly in the field and can be done independently online. During the Covid-19 pandemic, students can still develop competence and interaction in socializing in the community. The benefit of community service activities can still be felt by the community and students can continue to participate in a series of innovative activities,” said the student of UNDIP Civil Engineering.

“Education is very important for everyone to educate themselves and develop their potential. It allows an individual to grow and develop creativity, to have wider knowledge, to create good personality and to become a responsible person. In addition, education also plays a very important role in advancing the country in order to produce quality human resources and create a spirit of nationalism. The fewer generations that get proper education, the fewer generations that have the spirit of nationalism,” said Warda. (Lin – Public Relations)
