Undip Students in Student Community Service at Satimpo Village South Bontang District Invited Residents to Make Herbal Hand Sanitizers

Delvin Aurelya Listanti, a student of Student Community Service Team II of Diponegoro University conducted a Student Community Service ‘Back Home Program’ at Satimpo Village, South Bontang District, Bontang City, East Kalimantan. The work program is to invite people to live clean behavior as a form of breaking the Covid-19 chain and to make herbal hand sanitizer products made from betel leaf.

Washing hands using soap with running water is an effort to prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus. However as people are getting busier, they want to keep their hands clean in a more practical way, so that using innovative hand sanitizer product made from natural ingredients is an easier way for people to use it anytime and anywhere without rinsing with water. The ingredients needed are quite simple, such as betel leaves, aquades or cooking water, lime juice and aloe vera gel. These ingredients are processed and then packaged in small spray bottles that are labeled. They also made posters about tips for making hand sanitizer which are put on several locations so that people can read and practice it.

Delvin also provided learning assistance for elementary, junior high and vocational high school students, such as helping to learn chemistry and mathematics. She also taught the elementary students about multiplication learning with the media of ‘Poka’ or multiplication tree and ‘Bunani’ or colorful circle. Multiplication tree media is a media in learning Mathematics to calculate the results of multiplication of numbers. The advantage of using this media is that students can easily and quickly calculate the results of multiplication.

This unique method can make students feel happy to learn mathematics, especially in multiplication problems. Multiplication is difficult at first, now students can solve it easily and faster than the old way. Learning media of ‘Multiplication Tree’ with game techniques will increase the interest of students in learning mathematics. (Linda – Public Relations)
