Zahra Nur Aliya, an outstanding student who was inaugurated at Undip’s 173rd Graduation Ceremony at Diponegoro University (Undip) from the Faculty of Law, achieved a GPA of 3.85. She is a cum laude graduate with a study period of 4 years and 4 months before officially graduating on January 30, 2024. She has achieved many achievements, especially in field research that focuses on human rights (HAM) and gender equality. Achievements include 3rd place in the Tons of Ideas Idea Competition organized by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of PANRB, and 3rd place in the 2023 Human Rights English Student Paper Competition on “North Korea and Human Rights” organized by Human Asia and the Ministry of Unification of the Republic of Korea.

During her studies, she actively joined several organizations, especially those that promote gender equality. The organizations include the Young Staff of BEM FH Undip and the founder and president of Girl Up Diponegoro. When she entered her third year of active study, she became a Research Officer for Girl Up Indonesia. Entering her fourth year, Zahra is Head of Research and Advocacy for Girl Up Southeast Asia. In her fourth year, she became an active volunteer at SAFEnet (Southeast Asia Freedom of Expression Network). Apart from being involved in organizations, she also participated in international events, namely the 2023 Asia Pacific Youth Internet Governance, as a fellow organized by NetMission Asia.

Several organizations mentioned previously also invited her to be a Panelist for the CSW67 Side Event: Women, Peace, and Cybersecurity, organized by UN Women Asia Pacific. CSW (Commission on the Status of Women) is a functional commission of ECOSOC (a UN body) that promotes gender equality.

Education and organization helped her unlock previously unknown potential. Education plays a vital role in individual development. “Education and organizations help me to think critically in the decision-making process from daily life to professional life,” she explained.
