Thematic Community Service TEAM 2 UNDIP “Cianjur Disaster Response” Relocated School Facilities

Cianjur – Team 2 of the Thematic Community Service (KKN) “Cianjur Disaster Response” of Diponegoro University (Undip) relocated school facilities at SDN Margaluyu, Cibeureum Village, which was heavily damaged by the Cianjur Earthquake. The relocation was carried out so that school facilities were not further damaged when the school was not used for learning activities. The aim is that school facilities could be used again when the SDN Margaluyu building was rebuilt.

“We and the teaching staff at SDN Margaluyu plan to relocate student learning facilities that were still saved after the Cianjur Earthquake, it is hoped that the student learning facilities can still be used if the new SDN Margaluyu building has been torn down and rebuilt,” said Opic, one of the teaching staff at SDN Margaluyu, Tuesday (7/2/2023).

The earthquake that occurred in Cianjur Regency from November 2022 to January 2023, damaged community buildings including the SDN Margaluyu building. This caused teaching and learning activities at SDN Margaluyu to be hampered. Around 150 students from 6 classes of SDN Margaluyu cannot go to school normally. Meanwhile, students and educators carry out teaching and learning activities in emergency tents set up by residents and volunteers.

“We are very concerned about the students’ teaching and learning activities. The students cannot study comfortably in class and the class of students who are in tents is not enough to accommodate all students from grade 1 to grade 6 so students have to alternate days to go to school. The class conditions in the tent during the day are very hot so it is not comfortable for teaching and learning activities. We hope that SDN Margaluyu can be rebuilt so that students can study comfortably,” said Novi, one of the educators at SDN Margaluyu who helped relocate school facilities.

The demolition of the building and the construction of the new SDN Margaluyu has not received confirmation from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, but the school is already preparing to relocate student learning facilities that are still suitable for use.

Novi said that we need staff to relocate student desks, chairs and other school facilities that are suitable for use. The school had offered local residents who wanted to help relocate school facilities to emergency tents.

“We were very helped by the Thematic KKN Team who were willing to help us in relocating school facilities,” said one of the residents who helped relocate SDN Margaluyu school facilities.

The school has built an emergency tent in a vegetable garden beside the school for the relocation of school facilities. School facilities are being relocated in a cooperative and gradual manner. In total, more than 110 desks and 100 student chairs, 15 bookcases and 10 boxes of school files were successfully relocated to emergency tents.

“I, as the parent of a child who is still in school, really hope that schools can return to normal so that children do not experience delays in learning,” said the Head of the local RT.

All parties, both the school and the community, hope that schools can be rebuilt and student teaching and learning activities can return to normal.
