Civil Engineering students at Diponegoro University (Undip) again achieved a proud achievement. Recently, the Undip Force Majeure Team won 2nd place in the 2023 International Bridge Design Competition (IBDC).

The Undip Force Majeure Team consisting of Muhammad Toha Sitanggang (team leader), Ifan Hasnan Taufiqur Rohman, and Hafidho Asyam Bagusrama are Civil Engineering students class of 2019 and are mentored by Hardi Wibowo, S.T., M.Eng.

A series of competitions have been carried out from 6 February 2023 to 6 May 2023. There were 13 teams from various universities in Indonesia competing for ideas in designing bridges. Of the 13 teams, 5 finalists and winners were finally obtained from IBDC 2023, where the 1st place was won by the ERGO Team of ITS; the 2nd place was won by the Force Majeure Team of Undip; the 3rd place was won by the Jayandaru Team of IT Universitas Negeri Malang; the 4th place was won by the DAKSA Team ITS; and the 5th place was won by the SS 06 Makayasa Team of UNS.

As leader of the Undip Force Majeure Team, Muhammad Toha Sitanggang said that various preparations had been made before participating in the competition. “We have often participated in similar competitions, so adaptation is not too much of a problem. During the case work and preparation of the competition proposal yesterday it took approximately 1 week,” he said.

“Of course, he feels happy and satisfied but he feels he is not enough that he cannot win 1st place at our university,” added Toha.

IBDC 2023 is a competition held in a series of events The 11th Civil Engineering Innovation Contest (CEIC) 2023 by Civil Engineering of Diponegoro University which raised the theme “Strong And Innovative Bridge Design in Sustainable Disaster Mitigation Efforts for Better Future Development”.

The IBDC 2023 activity begins with the distribution of a study case and then participants are asked to make a planning proposal that contains various design elements and an analysis of the bridge structure.

After that, the proposals are collected and assessed by the relevant jury. Then the 5 best finalists were selected, and all finalists were asked to make video presentations and Power Points which were presented offline in the final stage which was held at Diponegoro University.

In the final stage, participants are invited to present their design results and a question and answer session is held by the jury.
