Undip Community Service Students Invited Teenagers in Pekalongan Regency to Avoid Early Marriage

Early marriage is one of the main problems for the Pekalongan Regency Government. The focus is proven by the high number of early marriages in Pekalongan Regency, which will reach 130 in 2023. According to the P3A (Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection) Service and PPKB of Pekalongan Regency, early marriages in Pekalongan Regency are caused by out-of-wedlock pregnancies.

Through the Community Service (KKN) program, Adellia Putri Utami, as a student of the Diponegoro University’s Public Health Study Program, held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) regarding the prevention of early marriage and stunting in Wonosari Village, Karanganyar District, Pekalongan Regency on Sunday (21/01). This program is a concrete manifestation of preventing early marriage and stunting among teenagers in Wonosari Village. This program also received support from the Wonosari Village Government, considering that early marriage and stunting are currently the focus of the Pekalongan Regency regional government.

This program was successfully implemented at the Wonosari Village Hall by inviting junior and senior high school teenagers to every sub-village in Wonosari Village. This activity explains early marriage and its impacts on middle and high school teenagers in Wonosari Village. Early marriage has impacts on health, economics and psychology.

Therefore, every teenager must understand the impact of early marriage. Meanwhile, stunting has a significant effect on the nation’s future. One of the causes of stunting is anemic teenagers, who can give birth to a generation with nutritional problems. Through this activity, young women are encouraged to consume Blood Supplement Tablets (TTD) regularly every week.

In this activity, an FGD was also carried out to find out the extent of understanding of teenagers in Wonosari Village regarding health problems in teenagers and the solutions they provide to overcome these problems. Through this FGD, teenagers can actively discuss and give their opinions and channel their creative ideas.

Teenagers in Wonosari Village are pretty active in providing their creative ideas so that the presentation process regarding the FGD results runs proactively between Community Service students and teenagers in Wonosari Village. With the implementation of this activity, hopefully, the rate of early marriage can be reduced, and the incidence of stunting can be prevented from adolescence.
