Faculty of Engineering UNDIP Held a Workshop and Kick-off Meeting with PT PHE to Develop Mining Potential in the Tarakan and Kutai Basins

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering Undip, held a workshop and kick-off meeting at the Engineering Hall, Dean Building Floor 5, Wednesday (31/5). This event is established as a follow-up to the collaborative efforts between PT Pertamina Hulu Energi and the Faculty of Engineering Undip in exploring and developing the potential of new mining areas in the Kutai and Tarakan Basins.

In this event, the research team from Geological Engineering Undip, led by Dr. Ir. Andang Bachtiar, M.Sc., presented their findings in front of the team from PT PHE. PT PHE’s Director of Exploration, Muharram Jaya Panguriseng, revealed that this workshop was beneficial for the development of new mining areas that still need to be explored in several regions in Indonesia, one of which is in the Tarakan and Kutai. According to him, oil and gas exploration is critical because oil and gas is the primary sector that must be fulfilled immediately. Hence, meetings with educational institutions are essential to meet these needs.

PT PHE’s efforts to collaborate with the Faculty of Engineering Undip in researching the Tarakan and Kutai Basins were welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D. He thanked PT PHE for inviting Geological Engineering Undip as the leading partner in this project. As one of the well-known Geological Engineering majors in Indonesia, the quality of Undip’s Geological Engineering is very suitable to meet the study needs of PT PHE. “Geological Engineering Undip has received A and international accreditation, so don’t hesitate to work with us,” he said.

In this workshop and kick-off meeting, the Geological Engineering Undip team presented their findings entitled “Kutai & Tarakan Basin Petroleum Geology Insight and New Opportunity.” Prof. Agung hopes this event can benefit the academic community of the Faculty of Engineering and be the start of further collaboration between the industry and the Faculty of Engineering. “Thank you for this cooperation. Hopefully, it will be useful, and may you always be blessed by God,” he said.
