UNDIP Achieved the Quattrick Predicate of “The 2nd Most Sustainable University in Indonesia” in 2023

Diponegoro University (Undip) has again been named The 2nd Most Sustainable University in Indonesia by the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2023. This ranking is a quattrick victory where Undip is ranked 2nd as a green and environmentally friendly university for four consecutive years starting from 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings assessment is based on the level of concern for earth and climate issues, energy and water conservation, waste management, and environmentally friendly transportation.

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings analysis was carried out based on 39 indicators on 6 criteria, namely Settings & Infrastructure, Energy & Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, and Education & Research. In the UI Greenmetric Trees Rating assessment, Undip achieved a score of 4.5.

As a green campus, Undip supports the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development) goals, including SDGs Goal 6, Clean Water and Sanitation, Goal 7, Affordable and Clean Energy, Goal 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Goal 13, Climate Action, and Goal 15, Life on Land.

Strengthening research and implementation of research results continues to be carried out by Undip scientists supported by leaders, lecturers, education staff, students and the Undip extended family together with the community. Environmental conservation efforts are also carried out regularly, including tree planting, plant maintenance, animal conservation, stocking of fish seeds, river cleaning, and so on.

Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum. said that this achievement was an appreciation and encouragement for Undip to continue to maintain and improve to create a green, environmentally friendly and sustainable campus. Prof. Yos also expressed his gratitude to the entire Undip academic community and extended family who have implemented the Sustainable and Green Campus program with environmentally friendly and sustainable activities.

“Undip is also trying to expand green open areas in the form of creating parks and campus forests, energy efficiency, using environmentally friendly energy, water conservation, green transportation, as well as building campuses with green and smart building concepts. In the future, Undip hopes to be able to contribute more to reducing the impact of climate change by preserving and conserving natural resources so that they have a good impact on our beloved earth,” said Prof. Yos.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Ambariyanto, M.Si., Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, on behalf of Undip Rector, received the award “The 2nd Most Sustainable University in Indonesia” at the UNHAS Hotel & Convention Makassar, on November 30, 2023. Prof. Ambariyanto thanked all Undip academics who have worked together to protect Undip and encouraged Undip to improve its quality as a comfortable and environmentally aware campus.
